Our Story
We started as Montrose Federal Credit Union back in 1964—built on three simple things: honesty, integrity, and self worth. Those same values guide everything we do today.
Back then, we were just for federal employees. But times change, and we realized something important: when our whole community thrives, we all do better. So we opened our doors wider, and on January 1, 2008, we became NuVista to reflect our growth across the Western Slope.
Today, we serve anyone who lives, works, worships, or goes to school in Montrose, Delta, Gunnison, Ouray, and San Miguel counties. We're still member-owned, still local, and still focused on one thing: helping you and your neighbors build a better financial future.
Our Mission
Empowering communities by promoting the financial well-being of our members and helping them on their path to financial freedom.
Our Core Values
Honesty, Integrity & Self Worth
These aren't just words on a wall—they're the foundation of every decision we make, every loan we approve, and every member we serve.
Why Choose a Credit Union?
You Own It
When you join NuVista, you're not just a customer—you're an owner. That $25 share? That's your stake in the credit union. You have a voice, and you have a vote.
Better Rates, Lower Fees
No shareholders to pay means we can pass the savings back to you. Better rates on loans, higher dividends on savings, and fewer fees—that's the credit union difference.
Local Decisions
Your loan application doesn't go to some call center in another state. It's reviewed right here by people who know your community, understand your situation, and want to help.
Federally Insured
Your money is safe. All deposits are federally insured up to $250,000 by the NCUA—the same protection you get at banks, just with better service.

You're Not Just a Number
Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Montrose, Delta, Gunnison, Ouray, and San Miguel counties.
NuVista is locally owned—by you! That $25 membership share makes you a part owner. You have a say in what we do, and your needs are handled right here by people who live in your community.
Your savings are federally insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration. Same protection as banks, just with better service and better rates.
We're here to help you build your financial future. Great rates on savings and loans, personalized service, and a commitment to your success—that's what member-owned banking is all about.
Get Involved
Want to help shape the future of NuVista? We're always looking for members who want to get involved in the "people helping people" philosophy of the credit union movement.
Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community while helping guide the credit union's direction. Board members serve three-year terms and are elected each year during our Annual Membership meeting in March.
Board Member
Help maintain the general direction and control of NuVista Federal Credit Union. Board members guide the credit union to fulfill its purpose, set policies, and ensure everything is done in the best interest of our members.
Supervisory Committee Member
Represent the membership by reviewing activities of the board, management, and staff. Ensure financial records are accurate, internal controls are maintained, and all decisions align with members' best interests. This committee is appointed by the Board of Directors.
