Q: What is a credit union?

A: A credit union is a non-profit financial cooperative owned and operated by its members. The members pool their financial savings to provide themselves funds for loans and a wide variety of other financial services. Credit union cooperatives exist to serve their members. As not-for-profit institutions, they are unique in the financial world. They are owned and directed by their members and are dedicated to the credit motto: not for profit, not for charity, but for service. That is the key difference between credit unions and other financial institutions.

Q: Are my funds insured?

A: Yes. All savings accounts are insured up to $250,000 by the NCUA, the National Credit Union Administration, an agency of the federal government.

Q: What are your hours of operation?

A: Our Montrose branch is open 8:00-5:00 Monday through Friday, and drive-up is open from 9:00 to noon on Saturday. We have extended Drive-up hours and holiday hours. Click here for hours. 

Gunnison Branch hours are 8:00-5 Monday through Friday.

Q: How do I text to find an ATM that doesn’t charge me?

A: Several Ways! VIA TEXT MESSAGING You can also locate a CO-OP surcharge-free ATM via text message. Simply determine your location or area, then text the address, intersection or zip code to 692667 (MYCOOP) * You’ll receive a very prompt text response with the location of the CO-OP ATM nearest the location you requested. Please remember, do not text and drive!

*CO-OP Network ATMs, 692667 (MYCOOP) is a surcharge-free service. But check with your mobile phone provider as standard text messaging rates apply. And don’t worry, you’ll never receive any unsolicited messages by using 692667 (MYCOOP).

Q: How do I go online or download the iphone App to find a free ATM?

A: Find a network surcharge-free ATM is a snap with CO-OP’s Locator App for iPhone. Using the CO-OP ATM Locator iPhone app, you can find the ATM nearest you, or search for ATMs by specific address, city, state or zip code. Downloading the app is free, easy and there’s no registration process. Just search ‘CO-OP ATM’ in the App Store at www.iTunes.com. Then download, install and go! Or click here to download now.

Q: Where do I reorder checks?

A: If you ordered checks, they will arrive in 7 to 10 days. Checks can be reordered by stopping by NuVista, calling the credit union or by clicking here: Check reorder

Q: Can I become a member?

A: Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Gunnison, Montrose, Ouray and San Miguel counties. This includes immediate family members both residing and not residing in your home or counties.

Q: How long to get my VISA card after I am approved?

A: NuVista VISA cards arrive in the mail 7 to 10 business days after the order is placed. There are times where you may need to do a cash withdrawal beforehand if needed. Ask a credit union service representative how.

Q: Do you charge for your online banking services?

A: No. Our online banking, online statements and online billpay are all part of your membership. *Please note that online billpay is not available for Business Accounts.

Q: Can I sign up for estatements without online banking?

A: No. estatements are within the online banking system and can only be accessed there.

Q: How do I change my address, phone number, other info or close my account?

A: Every change that is made on your account has to be done with a signature. You can request by phone and ask for an address change card, fax your changes, submit through online banking or come into the credit union. Fax: 970-249-8895

Q: What documentation do I need to open a membership?

A: If you are opening a personal membership you will need your state identification as well as your social security card. If you do not have your actual card please let your member service officer know that when you open your account. There are alternatives. If you are opening a business account the prior two items will be needed plus your EIN documentation. If you have questions please call 1-888-261-7488.

Direct Deposit/Payroll Deduction

Direct Deposit/Payroll Deduction is a free service that lets you have all or part of your paycheck or your entire Social Security, military retirement or pension check or other recurring payments sent directly to your NuVista account(s). It's also the easiest way to set up an automatic savings program or to repay a NuVista loan, and it may reduce the interest you pay on your loan.

To begin Direct Deposit, stop by your Human Resource Office or payroll office and request a Direct Deposit Authorization Form. Just complete their form and tell us how much you want to go to each account. The following information will help you in filling out their form:

If you wish your Direct Deposit to go to your savings account, please list your account number as it appears on your statement (including zeros).

If you wish your Direct Deposit to go to your checking account, please list the draft ID that is located on the center bottom portion of your checks.

To set up Direct Deposit of your Social Security check, call the Social Security office on their toll-free number, (800) 772-1213. They will ask for the account information provided above.
